Begin Your Technical Diving Adventure

The PADI Tec 40 course is designed for divers who want to explore the world of technical diving while remaining within no-decompression limits. This course allows you to safely plan and conduct dives to depths of 40 meters (130 feet) using single-tank enriched air, setting a strong foundation for future technical diving courses.

Course Overview

In the Tec 40 course, you will gain the knowledge and experience necessary to conduct dives beyond recreational limits. You will learn about the equipment, dive planning, and safety protocols required for technical diving.

Course Structure and Dives

  1. Knowledge Development:
    • Study dive theory focused on technical diving concepts, including:
      • Dive planning procedures
      • The use of enriched air nitrox
      • Decompression theory
      • Managing dive conditions and risks
    • Engage in discussions on equipment requirements and configurations for technical diving.
  2. Confined Water Training:
    • Practice essential skills in a controlled environment, such as:
      • Buoyancy control with additional equipment
      • Proper use of a dive computer for technical dives
      • Emergency procedures, including gas management and ascent techniques
  3. Open Water Dives (minimum of four dives):
    • Dive 1: Orientation Dive: Familiarize yourself with the technical equipment, including your enriched air tank and dive computer. Practice basic buoyancy control and familiarize yourself with the dive site.
    • Dive 2: Decompression Procedures: Conduct a dive to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet), focusing on your dive plan, buoyancy control, and the use of your dive computer for tracking no-decompression limits.
    • Dive 3: Depth Awareness: Dive to a maximum depth of 40 meters (130 feet) while applying your knowledge of enriched air diving. You will learn to monitor your gas supply, dive time, and emergency procedures.
    • Dive 4: Comprehensive Dive: Execute a planned dive to 40 meters (130 feet), incorporating all learned skills, such as managing your ascent rate and monitoring your dive computer, while practicing safety protocols.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent).
  • Minimum PADI Enriched Air Diver certification (or equivalent).
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • A minimum of 30 logged dives, including at least 10 dives deeper than 18 meters (60 feet).
  • Medical clearance may be required.

Certification

Upon successfully completing the PADI Tec 40 course, you’ll earn the Tec 40 certification, which enables you to plan and conduct dives to 40 meters (130 feet) using single-tank enriched air. This certification is a crucial step toward advancing your technical diving skills.
